As the 29-year-old from Rockville, Soweto, Nompumelelo Maduna prepares to compete in the Miss South Africa pageant for the third time, her faith and determination remain unwavering. This year, she hopes to win the coveted title and potentially represent South Africa at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico later this year.

In a recent visit to Mabothe Senior Secondary School, Maduna inspired pupils by sharing her personal story of perseverance and faith. She revealed that she had previously entered the competition in 2014 but didn't make it, and that this is her third attempt. Despite not succeeding in her previous attempts, including a top five finish alongside Zozibini Tunzi, Maduna remains hopeful. "Even if I don't make it, I would have fulfilled my purpose," she said.

Maduna emphasized the importance of believing in one's dreams and highlighted the value of education, quoting Nelson Mandela: "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world". She encouraged pupils to pursue their dreams and never give up, citing her own journey as an example. "Dreams do come true. I'm from Soweto, and despite growing up in a modest four-room house and now pursuing a master's degree at the University of Johannesburg, I've shown it's possible".

As she prepares for the Miss South Africa competition, Maduna is confident that her faith has been a driving force in her journey. "Today, I'm proudly wearing the Miss South Africa sash again and am looking forward to possibly representing the country at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico in November". Her message to pupils was one of gratitude: "Start each day by being thankful.
