Moorreesburg RFC Finds Rhythm in Dominant Bonus-Point Victory Over Riebeeck United
In a clinical display of attacking rugby Moorreesburg RFC reignited their Boland Grand Challenge campaign this past Saturday, delivering a commanding 54–15 victory over Riebeeck United. After a challenging opening to the 2026 season marked by three narrow, difficult outings, the "Boys from Moorreesburg" finally saw their persistent effort translate into a high-scoring masterclass in front of a vocal home crowd.
From the opening whistle at Rosenhof, it was clear that the hosts were playing with a point to prove. While Chairperson Andre Pekeur was quick to remain grounded in his post-match assessment, the scoreline tells a story of a team that has finally found its offensive spark.
"After three difficult games, we are very pleased with the win and especially the positivity the boys showed," Pekeur noted. "Our tactical play still needs work, but the effort from the players has been consistent every week, and this time it paid off."
The 54-point haul was not the result of a single moment of brilliance but rather a relentless collective effort. While individual flashes of skill punctuated the match, the club’s leadership emphasized the "overall team performance" as the true highlight of the afternoon.

Despite the scoreline, there remains a level respect for the visitors. Riebeeck United, who held the wood over Moorreesburg with two wins last season, are clearly navigating a turbulent period. "They are going through a tough period and may not have had the pre-season they planned," Pekeur observed, showing the analytical empathy typical of the Boland rugby fraternity. "However, they have quality players... they definitely have the ability to bounce back."
While the victory provides a much-needed confidence boost, the coaching staff remains focused on the "why" and the "how." With three key players now sidelined, the squad’s depth will be tested as they move deeper into the Grand Challenge calendar. The focus however, turns back to training and will be centered on decision-making and the execution of the game plan—areas Pekeur identifies as still requiring significant refinement.
If Moorreesburg can marry this newfound scoring prowess with the tactical discipline they are striving for, the rest of the Boland Grand Challenge should take note: the slump is over, and the hunt is on.
