Larofa Makes History with First Sponsorship Program in Kariega with Dr Naidoo

On Saturday, 15 August 2026, the Langa & Rosedale Football Association launched its first sponsorship programme in Kariega—the first initiative of its kind since the association were established in 2011. The event brought together community leaders, coaches, parents, and dozens of excited junior players for a day centred on dreams, discipline, and the future of soccer in Kariega.

Dr. Logan Naidoo, a medical practitioner who has served the Kariega community for 43 years, was the driving force behind this milestone. An enthusiastic sportsman with a deep love for football and tennis, Dr. Naidoo stepped forward as LAROFA’s first sponsor, marking a new chapter for the association. Speaking about his childhood love for soccer, he said, “As a boy, soccer was everything to me. It taught me teamwork, focus, and resilience. That love led me to this decision today — to give back and support the community that raised me.” He urged the young players to remain disciplined and consistent, both on and off the field. “Talent alone is not enough. You must show up, work hard, and believe in the process. By investing in you today, I am planting a seed in the dreams of Kariega’s junior soccer players,” Dr. Naidoo told the crowd.

The event was presided over by LAROFA President Mr. Ricardo Moos, who reflected on soccer’s role in shaping young lives. “Soccer keeps our youngsters off the streets. It teaches discipline, respect, and responsibility. I have seen first-hand how the game shapes a young person’s behaviour from an early age. When a child puts on a jersey and plays for a badge, they learn to represent something greater than themselves.”

Ms. Meyer, representing the House of Klaas and Dawid Stuurman, delivered a special message of support. Speaking directly to the junior players, she shared words that resonated across the venue. “It all started with a dream,” she said. “I encourage you to work hard and make yourselves and your communities proud. Like South Africa’s renowned sportsmen — Benni McCarthy, Lucas Radebe, Steven Pienaar, and Percy Tau — you too can carry Kariega’s name to great heights.” Her message emphasised heritage, pride, and the responsibility that comes with opportunity.

To conclude the programme, speakers reflected on LAROFA’s journey since 2011 — from humble beginnings with limited resources to becoming one of Kariega’s key platforms for youth development. A formal vote of thanks was extended to the partners, parents, coaches, and volunteers who continue to keep the association alive. As the organisation reflected on the past 15 years, the atmosphere was filled with pride and hope. For many of the juniors present, it was the first time they felt seen, supported, and believed in by the wider community.

Organisers and attendees alike declared the launch an immense success. With Dr. Naidoo’s commitment and sponsorship as a catalyst, LAROFA has laid the foundation for future partnerships focused on equipment, coaching, and tournaments for junior players. The association has made its mark in Kariega’s history, but this is only the beginning. For the children of Kariega, the message was clear: with discipline, consistency, and community support, their dreams are valid and achievable.
